Can I pretend this is some ultra-obscure Turkish disco version of 'Black Sabbath' by Black Sabbath? Not now I can't.
72. MARTHA VELEZ - SWAMPMAN
Who is the singer on the first mind-blowing Elephant's Memory LP? Is it Carly Simon? Or is it Martha Velez? I'm sure I would have known if it were the latter, and I always thought she was English. Check out Elephant's Memory in the B-Music Essential A-Z and explain. Then check out Anne Sarofeen's version of 'Swamp Man' for a reserve alternative.
73. JOHN LORD - ORGAN
After flirting with the Royal Philharmonic on a Deep-P project, self-proclaimed maverick and muzo lord did a classical rock LP called 'Windows', and one featuring the fantastic Yvonne (Mary Magdelen) Ellimen called 'Gemini Suite'. The sleeve also gets the prize for the most horrific homo-erotic gatefold of all time.
74. STANLEY MYERS - FUZZ
This 'Rhubarb and Custard' style fuzz-box-cavalry theme tune is a great dancefloor tune for people who like performance art, generally on the continent. I've never seen the film 'Otley', but it's actually one of my two fave Stanley Myers scores, the other being 'Sitting Target'. Now you're talking my language, Alan.
75. ENNIO MORRICONE - OSTINAZIONE AL LIMONE
A classic combi of Gainsbourg-esque acoustic guitar and plucky electric bass provide the rhythm for this macabre stomping piano jam with psychedelic Hammond licks. A-hunting-we-will-go for this psychotic man of the Catholic cloth as convent girls go missing one by one as they leave the confession box in Massimo Dallamano's '72 slasher flick. Cinecitta-goers backsides were the edge of their seats but their toes couldn't stop tapping along to this tense jazz score. Imagine a deranged alternative to 'Peter And The Wolf' on Phenothiazine.
76. HELEN MERRILL - HOUSE OF THE RISING FUNK (Featuring sample from the film 'THE VIJ - SPIRIT OF EVIL')
Helen Merrill's Japanese only 'Love In Song' is currently commanding big bucks from die-hard rare-groove fanatics, but the Blossom Deary connection attracted me to the mixes album which contains this awesome vocal version of 'House of the Rising Sun'. It's actually entitled '...Rising Funk' on the sleeve but has no connection to the 'Maceo and the Macks' track of the same name.
